Counseling can help alleviate difficulties and stress through a process of self-discovery.

My name is Kristin Shanahan and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor and Certified Group Psychotherapist. I support people in their desire to better understand themselves, often during times of depression, anxiety and life transitions. In a safe, nurturing environment, we explore and discover your patterns of behavior and how they may hinder you from living a meaningful life.

I work from a modern psychoanalytic perspective. Modern psychoanalysis uncovers our unconscious and subconsious drives and impulses often resulting in the understanding of deep emotional experiences we’ve carried throughout our lives. Understanding these experiences and how we adapted to them often helps the relationship we have with the self as well as our relationships with others.

If you struggle with:

Emotional intimacy - the desire to feel close to others but feel scared or avoidant of the vulnerability that comes with it

Self criticism - Constant berating of self leaving you feeling defeated and lonely

Relational connection - the experience of feeling like something is missing in your personal relationships

Developmental trauma and Complex PTSD - any trauma that happened in your childhood and still impacts you today is worth talking about.

I can help you explore the underlying issues creating these dynamics. I do not work quickly or feel that therapy is a quick fix. This means most of my work with clients is long term and relational.

I am licensed in TEXAS, COLORADO and UTAH.

My individual fee for service is $200 per 50 minute session. I provide both telehealth and in person sessions.

My group rate is $50 per 75 minute session. I currently run two groups. Please contact me for more information.

Deciding to begin therapy can be a scary one. I work in a direct, yet compassionate way to help people understand themselves in a deeper way. When we can understand ourselves better, we are often times better equipped to make decisions that help steer us onto a path of a more fulfulling life!

“Beneath the surface of the protective parts of trauma survivors there exists an undamaged essence, a Self that is confident, curious, and calm, a Self that has been sheltered from destruction by the various protectors that have emerged in their efforts to ensure survival. Once those protectors trust that it is safe to separate, the Self will spontaneously emerge, and the parts can be enlisted in the healing process.”
